The Longest Drive Ever: How to Survive a Long Haul in Your Conversion Van

The hours fly by in your conversion van as you roll down the highway at 70 miles per hour. You suddenly get cramps in your leg. That hunger you didn't notice before now roars throughout your stomach. It's been six hours since you stopped for food. What's that feeling in your pants? It's also been six hours since you've had a chance to go to the restroom. You're hungry, you have to go to the bathroom, and you have no room to stretch out.

Thankfully, this nightmare travel scenario can be avoided however by following a few simple tips.

Be sure to pack lightly for your trip. Don't take more than what you absolutely need for the enjoyment of the trip. Once of the main reasons you've decided to go on a trip in the first place is to relax. The more stuff you cram in the van, the less room you have to stretch out and relax. You also have to worry about carrying more stuff to the van when you load it and carrying stuff out of the van when you unload it. Don't put that burden on yourself when you're ready to go on a relaxing vacation.

Stop every four to five hours for food and restroom needs. Traveling on an empty stomach is never a good idea. You'll need to concentrate on the road ahead when you're driving long distances. You can't have any distractions taking your focus off of your driving. The same goes for restroom stops, which may be even more urgent. A full bladder is the last thing you want on a long trip. It's not healthy to hold urine in when you need to go to the bathroom anyway. It's also good to take a little break from driving every once in a while.

Don't forget to bring your favorite bedding materials on your trip. A comfortable pillow and blanket combination can make your travels much less stressful. You can bring the comfort you love from your own bed to lighten the atmosphere in the conversation van. Stretching out with a soft blanket and pillow will take your mind off of the long drive you're taking. The familiar smells and feelings of your bedding material will soothe your mind and body. Relaxation at its finest occurs when you make things as familiar as possible while traveling down the road.

Are you traveling with friends or family? Keep each other entertained. You don't have to force people to play games. Just try to point out certain things that you see and hear, and see where things go from there. Keeping the mood light and cheerful will be appreciated by everyone.
