The success of the Winnebago Era Class B motorhome has been underscored by a December 2012 report.

According to Statistical Surveys Inc, the Era is the #1 Class B motorhome model in North America for 2012.

The Grand Rapids, MI retail reporting service pegs the Era's 2012 market share at 16 percent. It means the Era model has more than doubled its market share in just one year. In 2011, the Era captured 7.6 percent of the market for Class B motorhomes.

Features like premium leather upholstery and solid countertops communicate both luxury and comfort to the prospective buyer. Undoubtedly, buyers have trusted the combination of the "Winnebago" and "Mercedes" names. Winnebago Industries went with a Mercedes diesel engine in this quality Class B entry. The 3L Mercedes  CDI 6-cylinder 154-hp, turbo-diesel engine is mated to the Dodge Sprinter chassis. By opting for a turbo-diesel configuration, Winnebago can simultaneously embrace both fuel efficiency and needed torque.

The Era represents just a portion of Winnebago's recent success. According to the December 2012 Statistical Surveys report, Winnebago Industries itself saw new vehicle registrations soar 167 percent year-over-year. This compared very favorably to strong growth throughout the industry of 28 percent.

Scott Degnan, Winnebago's VP of sales and product development, gave credit to the company's employees when he said, "We congratulate our loyal employees for their dedicated service and our great dealer partners for making the Era a huge success in the Class B arena."

At the same time, Degnan announced his company's intent to push forward with even more innovation, "Despite our success, we are not content to rest on our laurels. We are preparing to launch an exciting new product segment into Winnebago Industries' Class B lineup at our upcoming Dealer Days event scheduled for April 29-31 in Las Vegas."

The numbers reported by Statistical Surveys underscored what industry insiders had sensed over the past year; that is, the increasing popularity of the Era line. After doubling its market share in just one year, the Era is indeed ringing in a new era in Class B motorhome sales.

"We have worked hard to develop a great Class B product, and the Era model growth reflects the product development successes we have had to date," Degnan further asserts. It is clear that Winnebago Industries intends to protect the Era's hard-won market share with continued innovation and assertive marketing.
