Mercedes-Benz Showcases Sprinter Caravan in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Mercedes-Benz recently presented a concept for a Sprinter-based Caravan at the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany on Aug. 31 - Sept. 8. 

Mercedes - Benz hopes to begin the production phase of this van in the near future, with it setting the mark as a new base model such popular Class B motorhomes such as the Airstream Interstate, the Winnebago Era and Roadtrek's line of Class B motorhomes as well.

Features in this Caravan will be adjustable front seats that can swivel, a side-facing bench seat that folds out into a double bed, a kitchen and bath with an integrated wardrobe. The Caravan also features a high-gloss laminate floor and LED lighting.

Mercedes-Benz officially launched its Sprinter cargo and passenger vans in the United States in 2001 under their Freightliner brand. In 2004 the Sprinter Cab Chassis was officially launched and in 2005 the first generation of Sprinters achieved a production record of 150,000 units.

The Sprinter Passenger Van can be customized in several ways. Starting out with the 2500 model it has a 144" wheel base, a turning diameter of 47.6 ft. and towing of 5,000 lbs. The 2500 High Roof has the same 144" wheel base, turning diameter and towing capacity but is higher for extra headroom. There's also a 2500 High Roof that has a 170" wheel base. All Sprinters have a wide array of color choices for the outside including non-metallic and metallic paint. Interior has a choice of either fabric or leather.

All Sprinter Vans are EPA compliant with a 6-cycliner V 72, 4 valves per cylinder and a displacement of, 2,987 cc. Sprinter Caravans has a horsepower of 188 hp at 3,800 rpm and a rated torque of 325 lb at 1,400-2,400 rpm. All are electronically controlled with direct injection and common rail.

The future Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Caravan can offer many uses including leisure vacations, long drives, tailgating at sporting events, outdoor recreation, spectator sports activities, visiting families, mobile office and/or meeting room, traveling for work and more.

Available for all Sprinters is an AM/FM, 6 disk CD players with Bluetooth, adjustable luxury seating, cruise control, convenience lights, illuminated exit lights, overhead control panel. Other optional equipment is a back up camera, security alarm, exterior power, heated mirrors, first aid kit and a parking aid system.
