New Playstation 4 Will Fit Nicely In Your Van

It looks like if your van has a video game system set up, it's going to be getting even better...

Sony recently unveiled the PlayStation 4 at a conference in New York. The new console which has been five years in the making will be available for the 2013 holiday season. We've heard a lot about the Playstation 4, but Sony has not yet revealed images of the console itself nor has it revealed any pricing data. We can expect Sony to show the goods at this years' E3 video game conference in June.

There is some great news though, for one thing remains true: Sony is targeting its core gamer demographic here. Sure there are some new features that make the PS4 more compatible with mobile devices, but as Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Jack Tretton said, "We're focusing on that core gamer, the gamer who wants the ultimate experience and lives for gaming," and the PlayStation 4 is, as expected, is a graphics powerhouse.

The console boasts an 8 core 64-bit x86 Jaguar processor manufactured by AMD , a supercharged Radeon PC-style graphics processor with 18 compute units throwing out 1.84 TFLOPS of horse power, and eight gigabytes of RAM. The Playstation 4 features 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, a 6x Blu-ray drive, USB 3.0, and an unknown but probably vast amount of internal storage. This hardware should hold its own for the next five to seven years.

This new edition also sports new features for social integration. The new controllers will will have a "share" button. This social feature will allow you to invite friends to play. You can share screenshots and videos of your games on social networks like Facebook with your friends. More intriguing though, this button will allow you to "spectate" other friends' games. In an awesome turn, the PS4 will even let you allow a friend to remotely take over the control, to help complete a level. Friends will be able to make live comments while streaming.

The PlayStation 4 also features new streaming capabilities. If you get tired of gaming in front of your television, fear not if you have a Sony Vita, because the PS4 features "Remote Play" which can turn the Vita into a second screen.

The PlayStation 4 is, unfortunately, not backwards compatible. Though you need not say goodbye to the game library you've built up. However, the PlayStation 4 will support streaming PS1, PS2, and PS3 games from the cloud. Though that is not the greatest thing to hear, thankfully game developers have offered some beautiful games for this next generation. Quantic, developed by Heavy Rain, and Watchdog were some of the more impressive offerings.

The reveal may have been a bit sparse, but from the looks of it the PlayStation 4 is sure to be a hit.

Era No. 1 in Class B Sales

The success of the Winnebago Era Class B motorhome has been underscored by a December 2012 report.

According to Statistical Surveys Inc, the Era is the #1 Class B motorhome model in North America for 2012.

The Grand Rapids, MI retail reporting service pegs the Era's 2012 market share at 16 percent. It means the Era model has more than doubled its market share in just one year. In 2011, the Era captured 7.6 percent of the market for Class B motorhomes.

Features like premium leather upholstery and solid countertops communicate both luxury and comfort to the prospective buyer. Undoubtedly, buyers have trusted the combination of the "Winnebago" and "Mercedes" names. Winnebago Industries went with a Mercedes diesel engine in this quality Class B entry. The 3L Mercedes  CDI 6-cylinder 154-hp, turbo-diesel engine is mated to the Dodge Sprinter chassis. By opting for a turbo-diesel configuration, Winnebago can simultaneously embrace both fuel efficiency and needed torque.

The Era represents just a portion of Winnebago's recent success. According to the December 2012 Statistical Surveys report, Winnebago Industries itself saw new vehicle registrations soar 167 percent year-over-year. This compared very favorably to strong growth throughout the industry of 28 percent.

Scott Degnan, Winnebago's VP of sales and product development, gave credit to the company's employees when he said, "We congratulate our loyal employees for their dedicated service and our great dealer partners for making the Era a huge success in the Class B arena."

At the same time, Degnan announced his company's intent to push forward with even more innovation, "Despite our success, we are not content to rest on our laurels. We are preparing to launch an exciting new product segment into Winnebago Industries' Class B lineup at our upcoming Dealer Days event scheduled for April 29-31 in Las Vegas."

The numbers reported by Statistical Surveys underscored what industry insiders had sensed over the past year; that is, the increasing popularity of the Era line. After doubling its market share in just one year, the Era is indeed ringing in a new era in Class B motorhome sales.

"We have worked hard to develop a great Class B product, and the Era model growth reflects the product development successes we have had to date," Degnan further asserts. It is clear that Winnebago Industries intends to protect the Era's hard-won market share with continued innovation and assertive marketing.

Heading to the Beach with our Conversion Van

(From a conversion van fan...)

I'm a workaholic.

Taking a day off is very difficult for me, but sometimes I force myself to do it. My husband and I reserved a condo in Florida and began planning our vacation. I put in a request for paid time off at my job and started counting down the days until I could relax on the beach with my loved ones.

People always feel like they know what's best for others, so I expected to be bombarded with unsolicited advice about our family trip. The first question everybody asked us was, "How are you going to get there?" When I said we were taking a conversion van, many folks were horrified. "With the kids? How is that going to work? Wouldn't you rather fly?", they asked, insisting that there was no possible way that I could fit three kids, a husband and all of our luggage in one van.

I just laughed. I had already visited my local car rental agency and knew that the vans were very spacious. My mind was made up about renting a conversion van and no snide remark was going to change how I felt.

Our departure day arrived quickly. I decided to start things off right by oversleeping. I still can't believe that nobody woke me up. After dashing out of bed and throwing on some comfy clothes, I raced outside and discovered that my hubby and kids had already loaded up the van. The back was filled with suitcases, duffel bags and backpacks. I also spotted a cooler and a few beach umbrellas.

The drive was a peaceful one. Short trips to the store often lead to heated arguments amongst my youngest two, but our vehicle had enough room for everybody to stay happy as we crossed each state line. Maxie played her video games while Robbi read the latest vampire novel. I was worried that Lily would feel squished in the middle, but she had enough room to stretch out her arms and practice her cheer routine through most of Georgia.

There was a gap between my seat and my husband's, allowing me to easily whip my neck around and attempt to catch the kids misbehaving. I didn't catch them doing a single bad thing during the drive to or from Florida - and believe me, I checked often. Cool air blasted from the vents, and the smooth leather seat felt absolutely luxurious against my thighs.

We stopped halfway to the beach to stretch our legs and eat our lunch since we were all starving. Thank goodness we were able to bring the cooler instead of wasting money on overpriced fast food. We drove to Illinois once and had to stop at five different restaurants along the way since we couldn't fit the cooler in our tiny car.

Our vacation was incredible. We loaded the van up with seashells and souvenirs on the last day and headed home. Maxie had the brilliant idea of mailing shells back to our house after I told the kids that they could only bring what would fit in the van. This statement backfired on me after my kids loaded up the back with seven giant bags of shells and sand.

My coworkers still can't believe that we had such a smooth ride to Florida in a conversion van. The vehicle got surprisingly good gas mileage and we only had to fill it up a few times each way. Plane tickets would have cost us thousands of dollars and then we would have been stuck sitting at the airport for hours. We're planning a trip to California next year and will definitely be renting another van.

Your Conversion Van...We Want It...

Converting to anything desirable is a good thing...especially a conversion van.

Some conversions take a person on a lifelong quest which leads to finding more conversions. No, I'm not talking about religion. I am talking about conversion vans. Conversion vans were a hot vehicle back when they came out over three decades ago, but believe it or not they're even hotter today. As a used vehicle, there are few vans which people seek more.

Indeed, conversion to the van that converts is something a lot of people have been seeking...does that make sense?

Did you know Dave Arbogast was an early convert for conversion vans, and he's been seeking luxury vans ever since. He started a dealership specifically to help unbelievers find the beauty of a van which comes with so much comfort and so much luxury, it doesn't seem real. It's good to know if a used conversion van doesn't have a feature you're looking for, it's built specifically for modifications.

It's built with the ability to be converted.

Even more, the main man himself if such a fan of conversion vans he's constantly on the prowl for new ones.
We're always looking for conversion vans which are humble and dynamic enough for change.  If you have a conversion van you're ready to exchange, our team will gladly help you pass on the joy of owning a conversion van to another. In the meantime, we'll offer you top dollar for your used conversion van.

That's right, if you want to sell your conversion van we can offer you TOP DOLLAR!

To conclude, it should be mentioned that it's much easier on our conversion van team's sanity when people bring in their vans as opposed to the alternative. The quest for the best vans can often consume members of our team
to the point of erratic behavior, such as going to Woodstock-like concerts in order to look for vans which might be for sale. We'll look high and low, and sometimes even stoop to looking behind rocks which could potentially be hiding a beautiful, classic van.

This article is a last ditch effort to save us from such a dubious task.

We want your van and we'll give you top dollar for it.

That is all.

Looking to get rid of your used conversion van? Call 866-975-3287 to set up an appointment for an appraisal today.

An Arctic Adventure in a Mercedes Benz Sprinter!

$

If you're one of our avid Class B motorhome fans, then you're going to love this one, especially if you've ever been fortunate enough to take a trip in a Class B built on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter.

Mercedes Benz Canada recently matched up ten of its Mercedes Sprinters with an intrepid group of adventurers in a quest for the Arctic Circle.

The group assembled in Anchorage with plans to doggedly head north to the former mining camp of Coldfoot, inside the Arctic Circle. There, they were destined to enjoy six-hour days surrounded by lengthy nights that served as the perfect backdrop for the "Northern Lights."

Mercedes had already demonstrated that the rear-wheel drive commercial van could handle minus 22 degree Fahrenheit temperatures in northern Sweden. Now, the German company known for its engineering prowess intended to demonstrate that its diesel-powered 2500 series Sprinters could take on Arctic chill far colder than that.

Both cargo and passenger models were provided, in the two Sprinter wheelbases offered: 144-in and 177-in. The longer wheelbase passenger vans offer five rows of seats. One of the cargo versions was loaded up with emergency gear like tools, tow ropes, and windshields. You heard right. Apparently any windshield, even one from Mercedes, is no match for a rock thrown up by a semi that strikes at just the right angle. Ultimately, this group never has to resort to on-the-fly windshield repair.

Alaska looks large enough on a map, but this 1200 mile trek impressed upon the team just how immense the 49th state is. A trip from Chicago to Denver would fit neatly into this planned excursion, with far better driving conditions.

The Sprinter headed up the well-travelled route from Anchorage to Fairbanks rather uneventfully. The real test began north of Fairbanks, when the crew embarked on the final 800 mile leg of the journey, riding alongside the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline until reaching Coldfoot. The 17,000 BTU auxiliary heaters came in handy on this leg of the journey.

The trekkers passed out of cell phone range, and a satellite phone became a reassuring companion. One of the traveler's iPhones did not fare too well at all, even when it was still in range. With the temperature caressing the minus 36 degree mark on whatever thermometers recoded numbers that low, the iPhone's owner observed his battery indicator plummet from 80 percent to one percent in less than a minute.

Accommodations transitioned from the Sheraton in Anchorage to slightly more spartan facilities in Coldfoot. We did say "former" mining camp. The hotel lobby was protected by a few strategically placed rat traps.

The group successfully returned to the more populous confines of downtown Anchorage impressed by three things: the depth and richness of the Arctic lifestyle, the artistic quality of the Alaskan light, and the Sprinter's knack for handling whatever nature threw at it, for the most part at least. The expansive interiors were not always warmed sufficiently, even with the auxiliary heaters. And, with the temperature reading minus 41, one Sprinter that was not pre-heated would not start.

The Sprinters' diesel fuel supplies were topped off with diesel anti-gel along the way, with expected success. The Continental and Michelin snow tires also performed in GE icy hyper-cold, sans studs or chains. The rear-wheel drive Sprinters had indeed negotiated endless icy patches and daunting inclines along the way.

Conversion Van Traveling Tips

With a conversion van by your side, the world is your oyster. You no longer need to worry about buying expensive airline tickets or tracking down an available hotel room because you can just hop in your van and go. Before you head off on your next trip, make sure that you're prepared for traveling by following a few easy tips.

Make a List and Check it Twice

Santa Claus isn't the only one who needs to make a list and check it twice. When you want to take your family on a traveling adventure, you need to sit down and make a list of everything that you need. The list should include clothing, food, toys or games for the kids, cooking supplies and anything else that you think you might need. Go through the list as you pack, making a check mark beside each item that you pack. Before you jump in the van, go over the list a second time just to ensure that you didn't leave anything off.

Prepare for Cold Nights

When you stay in a hotel room and the temperature unexpectedly drops, you can just reach over and turn the heater on in your room, but you don't have this same luxury when it comes to the open road. Several companies make small space heaters that plug into the cigarette lighter in your van, letting you beat those chilly nights. You can also bring along a few extra blankets and thick sweaters or sweatshirts for every member of your family.

Pretend You're Camping

With a conversion van, you'll likely spend some time in RV parks or campgrounds. You might consider bringing along a small tent and sleeping bags. If the weather gets a little too warm, you can set up the tent and sleep outside, or you can reach for your sleeping bags and sleep under the stars. This is also an easy way to make more room in your van because you can let the kids sleep outside.

Need More Room?

Believe it or not, you might find that your van doesn't have enough space for everything that you need. By the time you pack your food and camping supplies, you might not have enough room to sit and lounge comfortably inside the van. Some campers take out one or more seats in the van to make more room, but you might prefer bringing along a trailer that attaches to the bank of the van. Trailers have all of the extra space that you need, and you can even leave it at the campground when you want to explore the local attractions. Take your conversion van vacation to the next level by packing the right supplies and giving yourself extra room.

What are the joys of camping?

For many, it's lying on your back gazing up at more stars in the sky than you could count in a lifetime. It's enjoying the serenity of a silence broken only by branches rustling in an evening breeze. It's toasting marshmallows over an open camp fire and telling ghost stories with the family. It's sharing experiences that will be treasured long after the camping trip ends.

The simple pleasures of camping have engaged campers for generations and still draw families into the great outdoors in every season. According to a report published by Outdoor Foundation, a leading outdoor industry organization, around 15 percent of the American population go on camping trips each year. Today, camping opportunities are expanding to appeal to a wide array of tastes.

The best part is did you know camping in your conversion van is not only a great idea, but easier to do than you would ever guess?

Camping or Glamping?

Although camping in tents remains popular among traditional campers, it's no longer necessary to rough it in order to get close to nature. Many campgrounds have been transformed into "camp resorts," places that offer amenities typically associated with exclusive boutique hotels, such as free Wi-Fi, free grocery delivery and indoor bathroom and laundry facilities. Some campgrounds even boast espresso bars and wide-screen televisions.

Whether camping in an air-conditioned cabin or in a luxurious conversion van, vacations which combine glamorous amenities in a natural environment have earned the nickname "glamping." Experts cite the booming conversoin van business as fueling the desire to enjoy nature's wonders without compromising comfort. Conversion van owners are seeking out campgrounds which are not only equipped with adequate water and electrical hook-ups but that offer the same level of luxury as their well-appointed motor homes as well.

Expanded Opportunities for Fun and Activities

Although the Outdoor Foundations "American Camper Report" lists hiking as the most popular camping activity, the study reports that many campgrounds are offering an array of other activities as well, from heated pools and waterslides for in-camp aquatic fun to canopy tours that combine the thrill of zip-lining with exploring nature's biodiversity. For many people, the ideal camping setting includes a lake or river where they can laze away the trip fishing. Lakes and rivers can offer an array of water sport activities as well, including swimming, boating, water skiing and white-water rafting.

New technologies are also expanding opportunities for camping fun. Equipped with an easy-to-use mobile app, bird watchers and animal enthusiasts can identify birds and wildlife with the touch of a finger. Photography is another popular activity, allowing campers to create a permanent memento of their trip and to share the photos instantaneously with friends and family at home as well.

Today, camping truly has something to offer every individual. From a wilderness backpacking trip to a stay in a luxury air-conditioned cabin, there's something to appeal to every taste. With multiple activities to enjoy and all the wonders of nature to explore, the joy of camping continue to beckon vacationers into the great outdoors.

Cooking in a Conversion Van

When it comes to cooking a good meal, some people feel lost and confused. They may not understand what to do or how to start no matter what the recipe or size of the kitchen.

When it
comes to cooking in a conversion van, the task may seem to be especially daunting. And believe it or not, these days more and more conversion van owners are finding ways to create entire meals in their vans when out on the open road, whether it be for a simple weekend camping trip in a converison van or a conversion van tailgating adventure to the big game.

Thankfully, The information below may help in some manner.

1. Store Items Properly

If a person wishes to cook a suitable meal while on the road in a conversion van, it is vital to be responsible with storage. A person should not store heavy or large items on high shelves; if the conversion van hits a sharp turn or bump on the road, the heavy items may fall and injure a passenger. If this is not the case, any food inside of the heavy containers may fall out and spill on the floor. A person may lose crucial ingredients for meals.

Taking advantage of some simple plastic storage containers, ones which store easily is a great way to keep things organized.

2. Cook Items over a Fire

Some people choose to make meals before going on trips. They may warm up the food and serve small portions to make it last; this does not have to be the fate of every person who uses a conversion van. If a person wishes to make a sumptuous meal for loved ones, it is possible to cook food over a fire. A person may prepare a potato, wrap it in aluminum foil, and lay it on coal. The potato may taste delicious with the help of toppings stored in the refrigerator. A person does not have to be skilled to take on this recipe.

3. Wash Vegetables and Fruits to Avoid Problems

It is not unusual for a person to forget proper food etiquette while on the road. The person may decide that it is not necessary to take certain steps to ensure that the food is safe to eat; this is a terrible mistake. If a person wishes to keep a family safe from sickness and other issues, he or she should wash items before serving them. A person should wash all fruits and vegetables before giving them to a loved one. This step does not take a lot of time, and it ensures that people will be happy.

It is not necessary to live on fast food and other unhealthy items while traveling on the road. A group of people may eat well and heartily while in the conversion van. The information above may help a person reach a decision and prepare good meals in any setting.

An Adventure to an NBA game in a Conversion Van

(From an avid conversion van enthusiasts...)

Last fall, my cousins and I decided to take a road trip from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Denver, Colorado and watch the Minnesota Timberwolves play against the Denver Nuggets.

Initially, there were some questions about whether we should take a sedan or an SUV. About that time, our Uncle Alan suggested he could drive us in his conversion van. Although skeptical at first, we were pleased at his invitation and accepted his offer and a few months later, we were on our way to Denver.

There were seven of us on the trip. As we began to load our luggage into the conversion van, I wondered how there would be enough room for all of us plus everything we had brought with us. I soon found the answer. The van had plenty of space and it was plush and inviting. The far back seat was a bench seat for three people, but it was comfortable and had room for three teenagers with their electronics and snacks. The next two seats were captain's chairs that could swivel and recline. I took shotgun next to my uncle. That seat was amazing. It could recline backwards and forwards. I had plenty of legroom and had enough space to take off my winter ski jacket without feeling cramped. In fact, everyone was comfortable and had plenty of leg and ceiling space. The ceiling of the van was high and it was nice to do several full-length stretches in the van as we began making serious travel time.

As we made our way along Interstate 80, it began to get dark outside. Uncle Alan had a DVD player and a flat screen television in the van. As we drove along, my cousins watched movies. While a movie was on, Uncle Alan and I could hardly hear the movie play because of the great sound system. At other times, my uncle would have his Sirius Radio on and we would listen to talk radio. My uncle, being a road warrior, drove through the night as I and my cousins slept in the van. There was a quiet hum in the vehicle as I closed my eyes and dreamt about the game.

We arrived at Pepsi Center, watched the game and drove back the same day. I got to drive the conversion van during the night and really enjoyed it. It handled better that I thought it was going to and it almost seemed like I was driving an SUV or a minivan. We arrived back in Minneapolis in good time. We were disappointed that our road trip ended so soon, but we are making plans to go back to Colorado next year on a ski trip with Uncle Alan and the conversion van.

Why I Want to Buy a Conversion Van

$

(From a conversion van enthusiast...)

I am always talking about how much I am looking forward to buying a conversion van. People hear how excited I am, and they want to know why I get so enthusiastic about my upcoming purchase.

Here are the main reasons I get a thrill when the thought of getting the keys to my own conversion van enters my mind.

Pilot Seating

To me, there is nothing cooler than the pilot seats in the front of a conversion van. The comfort they offer is outstanding. It is so nice to be able to swivel over and look at my co-pilot or into the back seat. It is great that the passenger front seat is a pilot seat, too. It comes in handy when the navigator needs to swivel around to gain easy access to the back part of the van. It will keep me from having to pull over when we need something from the back.

Space

One of the best things about conversion vans is the vast amount of space that they have. No other van can offer the kind of space that a conversion van does. I cannot wait to load up all my camping gear into my conversion van for that first road trip. We are planning on heading to Yellowstone National Park for our first road trip, and the extra space that the conversion van features will come in handy when we pack it full of all of our equipment.

Great Gas Mileage

One of the reasons I am going with a conversion van instead of an SUV or standard van is the great gas mileage. With the insane prices at the pumps, I need to do everything I can to try to improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicles I drive. The gas mileage offered by a conversion van trumps any other comparably sized vehicle.

Camping Is Easy with a Conversion Van

One of the main reasons I am getting my conversion van is to enjoy camping trips with it. I want a vehicle that allows me to camp inside of it for maximum comfort. A conversion van is perfect for this purpose. I had considered purchasing an RV for my camping trips, but I cannot afford to spend the kind of money they are asking for RVs these days. The conversion van I am getting is one of the most economical ways for me to camp in comfort, snug and off the ground.

Conversion Vans Are Awesome

As you can see, there are lots of reasons to get a conversion van. I think they are the perfect vehicle for anyone who likes to go on road trips.

Basically, if you're thinking about heading out on an open road trip, then doing so in a conversion van is worth thinking about.

So What All Can a Conversion Van Come With?

$
0
0

Conversion vans are a growing trend in vehicles today. The best definition of one of these vehicles is a van that has been converted to other uses. One of the most popular conversions is that of a regular passenger or cargo van which has been converted to use as a camper or "mini-RV."

When shopping for a conversion van, make a list of the amenities you would like to have. Do not be shy about putting anything on the list. You can include:

  • Air conditioner/heater
  • Bed
  • Storage space
  • Cook top
  • Refrigerator
  • Oven
  • Entertainment center

(Also, if you decide to go the Class B motorhome route, you can also include things like a shower, toilet, sofa sleeper and more depending on the model of course.)

Of course, the van may not hold the same types of amenities that a home or full-sized RV might have. Many commercially made and "homemade" conversion vans have the same items. A homemade model might have the following amenities:

  • A porta-potty instead of a regular toilet
  • A camp stove and/or a toaster oven
  • A battery bank with a power converter for hooking up to an RV park's electrical post and/or solar power
  • A 12-volt refrigerator or ice chest
  • A bed, either built by hand or a seat that folds down into one, that doubles as a sofa
  • A CD player, DVD player, laptop or other type of entertainment center. Some passenger vans include a rear-seat DVD player.
  • Showers or baths can be home made, taken in a gym using a membership, at truck or rest stops, at an RV park or using the "bucket" method.

How's this for a custom van trip?

British pop group One Direction is adding a special element to its upcoming tour of the United States. Harry and company will be bopping between cities in a Scooby Doo van, which has been specially customized at a cost of $107,000. The van is currently undergoing its transformation in an Enfield facility and is expected to be completed in six weeks time.

Along with Scooby Doo, the band will have its distinctive logo, 1D, stamped on the van, which will be sporting blue and green colors. Other plans include individual consoles for entertainment and a gigantic plasma television screen that will take up the entire wall behind the driver's position. Other technology in the van will make it a truly state-of-the-art vehicle.

A source close to the band and the project stated that the members are big fans of cartoons and consider Scooby Doo to be a cult classic. They wanted something extra special for the US tour and came up with the idea of creating the van. The band members are excited about the project and are eager to have it shipped to the US as soon as possible. It is expected to make a big splash with not only the fans, but also their mothers and other older relatives.

The source went on to say that if the band's management found the van to be too costly or impractical, it would be used to transport the group between gigs in the UK.

The inspiration for the vehicle appears to come from The Beatles and the bus used in the 1967 "Magical Mystery Tour" film.

The One Direction 2013 tour of the United States begins on June 13, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and will conclude on August 13 in Los Angeles, with two performances at the Staples Center.

Which Airstream Meets Your Fancy: The Interstate or Avenue?

Airstream recreational vehicles have a long-standing legacy of quality and luxury within the industry. From its distinctive travel trailer models, Airstream touring coaches have emerged to bring camping to a new level. Touring couches are self-contained motor homes that have some of the same comfortable features as the well-known, towable travel trailers. The two Airstream touring coach models are the Avenue and the Interstate.

The Avenue's High Style and Compact Features

One could mistake the sleek, compact design of the Avenue for a very elegant custom van. In keeping with Airstream's signature aerodynamic designs, this luxury recreational vehicle is crafted for comfort and efficiency. Additionally, it has a towing capacity of over 7,000 pounds. The Avenue's interior is what makes it special; furnishings include leather seating and stainless steel fixtures. The vehicle has sleeping quarters for two, but it comfortably seats between five to seven people depending on the floor plan chosen. Avenue customers may choose from among three floor plans to suit their personal needs and preferences. The three different floor plans include the Avenue Suite, Avenue Lounge Wardrobe, and the Avenue Lounge.

The Avenue Suite includes seating for five people along with storage and an overhead wardrobe for travel clothes and other recreational gear. The lounge area that converts to sleeping quarters has a movable table for dining or entertainment. It also features a kitchen with a cooktop stove, refrigerator and microwave. Bathroom facilities include a shower, sink, and toilet.

The Avenue Lounge Wardrobe has seating for six people and comes with many of the features of the Avenue Suite. While this floor plan includes an extra cabin seat, it does not contain the shower, bathroom sink, refrigerator, and microwave featured in the Avenue Suite floor plan. It does, however, contain additional stowaway tables and shelving not seen in the Avenue Suite floor plan.

The Avenue Lounge seats seven people and includes built-in storage space for luggage and other gear. The extra two cabin seats take the place of the wardrobe, shower, bathroom sink, refrigerator, and microwave found in the Avenue Suite floor plan. This model does include additional stowaway shelving which is not included in the Avenue Suite floor plan.

Luxury On The Interstate

Airstream's Interstate touring coach is slightly larger than the Avenue; this is significant since Airstream designs take advantage of every square inch of space to offer the greatest level of comfort. The Interstate is literally the Mercedes-Benz of recreational vehicles as Airstream partnered with the luxury brand to produce the engine and chassis of the Interstate model. This recreational vehicle has the comforts of home, the compact look of an up-scale van, and the handling of a luxury car. The Interstate model comes in a standard and extended version; it has a greater variety of floor plans than does the Avenue touring coach.

Interstate standard version floor plans seat between five to eight people. Common elements for each plan includes cooktop stove, kitchen sink, shower, toilet, and bathroom sink. Floor plan differences include single and double beds, extra wardrobe space, and more moveable tables.

Interstate extended version floor plans seat between seven and eight people. Common features include a cooktop stove, kitchen sink, shower, toilet, bathroom sink, stationary ottomans, and moveable tables. The difference between the two include extra wardrobe space.

What is the "Ultimate" Conversion Van?

The ultimate conversion van lets us take Home with us.

Today, such home conveniences are often multi-purpose. Refrigerators chill and freeze, protect the oversized and the delicate, and dispense and alert. Mattresses retain our handprints, but won't touch a drop of our wine. Our bathroom taps cough up hot water from the get-go (if that's what we choose) and our televisions bring us the local news, play or record a DVD, let us surf the internet, and shut themselves off after we've fallen asleep.

With all of that in mind, our imaginations can wander endlessly into vehicle territory and even more, what the ultimate conversion van would entail. Back in the day, a conversion van had reclining seats and a place for your port-o-let pot...thing...ew.

There was enough open space in the back to cram in your tent, Coleman stove, ice chest, fishing gear, and a change of clothes. If Mama didn't like the setup, she could stay home. If Mama wanted to ride along, she was in charge of the Coleman, the dirty underwear, the potty thing, and any fish that were left in the ice chest.

Today, Mama can drive in comfort, sleep under a fold-out canopy, and hope for a campground shower. She has a little refrigerator in the conversion van of her dreams. For her cosmetics, she has special containers that won't fall over when making sharp turns or driving over speed bumps. There is even enough ceiling for a few light aerobics.

The ultimate conversion van has surround sound, picture windows with designer blinds, central air, pop-up bunk beds for the kids on top, and a mother-in-law suite tent thing down by the lake. A back-saving pop-out slide allows easy maneuvering of the cooking appliances and supplies to the m-i-l tent area.

The "necessary" is surrounded by a sound-proof privacy curtain and is self-cleaning-somewhere out around 10 miles into desert area. Other privacy needs aren't needed because there are children along-and what's her name-but that's okay; we have little mattresses that will retain our handprints and not spill a drop of our wine.

Technology comes with our ultimate ride too! We have full-time internet connection, undisrupted cell phone service, and a pair of miniature paramedics in the spare tire cover. We figure if we need a spare tire, it'll be because we need to get to a paramedic. It's six of one/half a dozen of the other.

Blue Tooth is our dog. He's got a talent for sniffing out the best camp sites. We buckle him up in a safety harness when we're driving, in case he alerts just because of burgers.

We're happy campers. Mama's happy. Everybody's happy.

Japan Takes Custom Conversion Vans to New Extremes

Driving around town in a van that resembles an intergalactic spaceship might not be for everyone, but custom Japanese conversion vans are giving drivers a new way to look as ridiculous as possible on their way to work.

Western Comfort Meets Eastern Extremes

In the United States, conversion vans give families and groups of friends a way to take comfortable road trips in style. Western culture has taken van modification to all new extremes with vehicles depicting characters from Disney and popular Japanese animation titles.

While many of these custom vans feature pop-culture icons and themes, others are based on all-original designs as well. With stunning visual concepts, body modifications and interior designs that focus on entertainment, these extreme Japanese conversion vans are making the 'Pimp my Ride' guys look like amateurs.

Go Big or Drive into a Ditch

Cartoon characters, famous celebrities and color schemes differ greatly between each of these outlandish vans, but they all share big body modifications that really stand out. American drivers just put a rear spoiler on their cars to make them look cool, but automobile customizers in Japan are using gigantic fins and huge body skirts to grab the attention of everyone on the road.

If these extreme vans were on American roadways, they would increase annual automobile accidents from the distractions alone. Imagine a bright purple van with 5 foot rear spoiler fins barreling down the highway right next to you. It's enough to make anyone turn their head in amazement, and then inadvertently run into the median. Ouch.

Going to Extremes Inside and Out

You shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but not when it comes to custom Japanese automobiles. The interior of these vehicles are just as over-the-top as their exterior. Some of the most elaborate conversion vans are equipped with outward folding panels that reveal custom interior features.

Big speakers, custom lighting and visual displays are a few of the things found inside Japanese conversion vans. Interiors are often designed to match or compliment the outside of the vehicle for an overall theme, but they're also made to completely contrast the exterior as well.

Japanese custom conversion vans take automobile modification to heights rarely seen in other countries. From fun and quirky, to over-the-top, these vans are in a league all their own.

The 2013 Winnebago Era: Unlike Any Class B to Come Before It...

Many of us have cherished childhood memories of experiencing the great outdoors, and some of those memories may involve a motor home. The recreational vehicle (RV) industry has been around for some time, and Winnebago has long been a leader in the field. The 2013 Winnebago Era is unlike any that have come before it.

There are more features available now than ever before with this Class B motorhome, and Winnebago has some unique ones all its own. Here are some standard features that come on every model:

Chassis/Powertrain

Expanding on the popularity and fuel efficiency of Mercedes Sprinter chassis, each Winnebago Era comes equipped with a 3 liter Mercedes six cylinder turbo-diesel engine. This provides 188 horsepower and 5,000 pounds of towing capacity. The five speed automatic transmission helps ensure maximum fuel efficiency, while the four wheel anti-lock brakes allow you to stop when needed. There is nothing manual here, with power windows, locks, steering, and mirrors (with auto defrost).

Interior

Each vehicle comes with an integrated RV Radio®/Rearview Monitor System, consisting of a 6.5" LCD touch screen, CD player, audio input jack, and full color back up camera. For entertainment and comfort, there is a 22 inch LCD TV, 12 volt power outlets, LED ceiling lights and comfortable cabin seats with lumbar support.

Kitchen

There is no shortage of culinary capability in an Era. Each kitchen comes complete with solid Corian® counter tops, a microwave, a two burner range, refrigerator and freezer, and stainless steel sink. The built in cold water filtration system means you will always have access to clean, pure water.

Exterior

For times when you feel like entertaining outdoors, each model comes standard with an expanding patio awning. There is also an exterior porch light, and well as running boards and rear mud guards.

Safety

All of the trappings of comfort do not mean that safety has been overlooked. Standard features are dual airbags, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, child safety seat anchor points, daytime running lights, fog lamps, and a fire extinguisher.

Power

For your power needs, there is a dual battery charging system, a 45 amp converter and charger, and a 30 amp power cord. That doesn't mean you won't have power where there aren't any RV hookups as each unit comes with a 2,500 watt Cummins MicroQuiet generator.

With all of that coming standard, what else could there be? There are two models to choose from: the 70A and 70X. Depending on which model you choose, there are several additional options one may add. Some of these items are as follows:

- Stylized aluminum wheels
- Infotainment center with integrated GPS and Bluetooth capabilities
- Sirius satellite radio
- Removable storage cabinets
- Powered beds
