Sure conversion vans are a lot of fun, but owning a completely customized van can even be more exciting.![original.jpg]()
If you still dream of finding buried treasure and raising the flag on your ship, looking like a real pirate is now a possibility. A San Francisco seller recently posted an add online for his own pirate-themed Chevy van. Imagine the look on your kids' faces if you picked them up from school in such a stylish van. It's part of the allure of owning a customized van.
Taking your kids to soccer practice, driving to work and even grabbing groceries is a fun experience when you sit behind the wheel of a customized van. Take this pirate van for example.
Chevy began manufacturing and selling vans in the 1960s, and while its Corvair Greenbrier was a hit, it later replaced that model with the G-Series. This 1967 G-Series model might look a little basic on the outside, but the inside is anything but basic. The first thing you'll notice is the bright teal blue exterior paint job with bold red accents. While Chevy offered a number of different colors on this model, teal and red weren't two of those options.
The owner of this van has completely decked it out. On the inside of oit, any pirate lover will find themselves screaming in joy. A vibrant shade of royal purple covers the interior walls, and while you might not think purple is a pirate color, it works nicely with the other pirate elements. Vans from this era often featured a couch in the back that folded down into a bed, and this one is no exception. Chevy and other companies knew that shoppers used these vans as campers. They could recline on the couch as someone else drove, and once they reached the campground, they could use that couch as a bed. The owner of this pirate van turned the couch into a treasure chest. You can clearly see that fake gold accents on the base of the couch, and those accents might make you feel like you're sleeping on a chest filled with gold.
![ku-xlarge.jpg]()
The owner even took things a step further with accents that you definitely won't find on other vintage Chevy vans. Have you ever wanted to sleep with a skeleton staring over you? When you fall asleep in this van, you'll have a pirate skeleton watching over you and protecting your treasure. Don't forget that the van comes complete with a skull sitting right on the center console, and that skull will keep an eye on your driving.
So remember, it doesn't matter if you're a pirate fan or looking to customize your van with another theme; a conversion van is the perfect canvas to do so.

For an "under the radar" touring band, life on the road presents numerous challenges. From traveling logistics to itinerary foul-ups, shady promoters to half-filled venues, one thing is certain; the unexpected will occur. For the San Francisco-based band FayRoy, a valuable lesson was learned earlier in the week during the band's stopover in Chicago.
The band travels from coast to coast via a conversion van, and between the hours of midnight and 4 AM this past Tuesday, the van and all its contents were stolen from a parking space near the intersection of North Wood St. and Chicago Avenue (locally referred to as Ukrainian Village). The band had performed earlier in the evening at Chicago's Moe's Tavern and reported last seeing the van, with contents intact, around midnight. When the band members returned around 4 AM, there was no sign of the vehicle.
After confirming that the vehicle hadn't been towed away, a police report was filed, leaving the band stranded in the Windy City while they pondered their next move. The band is in the midst of a two-month East Coast and Midwest tour and were scheduled to perform on Thursday night in Dayton, Ohio.
According to band members Zack Hoag and Kyle Fournier, all of the band's equipment was loaded in the van, including six guitars, three amplifiers, a drum set, synthesizers and sound boards along with assorted microphones, camera equipment and personal items such as clothing and surfboards, leaving the four band members with essentially all they were wearing at the time. The vehicle is a maroon 1997 Chevrolet conversion van with bubble top and its California license plate is 32508 DV. Images of the conversion van are available for viewing on the band's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/FayRoy). The webpage also contains contact data for anyone having information related to either the theft or the whereabouts of both the conversion van and contents.
Moe's Tavern pitched in with a fundraiser on Wednesday night to assist the band, which was making their first appearance in Chicago. The four band members are also utilizing as many social media sources as possible in the search for both the van and the equipment.
The four members of FayRoy (Hoag, Fournier, Ryan Bambery, Alex Gerhard) are all native Floridians but have been based in the San Francisco Bay area since September, 2011. Their music is a mixture of folk, psychedelic and surf-rock with striking vocal harmonies, reminiscent of '60s-style California pop/rock.

Conversion vans seem to always face one major obstacle: Combining luxury and style without compromising on utility and economy.
The task can be difficult when it comes down to a close inspection of the balance. However, GMC has been able to achieve this goal elegantly with its 2013 Explorer 9-Passenger Conversion Van. The Explorer 9 Passenger is a three-door conversion van that will seat up to nine people without blinking an eye in the space department. It opens its doors to a cabin full of amenities without leaving buyers concerned over the performance of the van as a whole.
With any conversion van, it is important to start under the hood. Here is where you can get a feel for power in addition to how much gas it is likely to take in order to keep that power moving. This Explorer 9-Passenger conversion van comes equipped with a 6-Liter, V-8 engine, giving it the capability to move some serious weight without needing to depend on a hefty gas tank. The 6-speed automatic is extremely friendly to drivers, making any trip, long or short, one that feels natural and is pleasurable. As you move away from the heart of the vehicle, buyers can continually be reassured. The chassis is solid and based on trusted GMC engineering of the past, and the Stabilitrack system makes driving in virtually all conditions an activity that does not put passengers at risk.
When styling comes to the table, GMC again succeeds like no other conversion van on the market. Premium Chrome wheels, a refined grill, and deep metallic shades with draw in the eye on the body exterior make this particular model a thing of beauty. In addition to settings the standards extremely high in terms of aesthetics, the interior does just as well. Starting in the driver's seat, the navigator will feel nothing but comfort. Nearly every aspect of the interior from environmental controls to entertainment options are within their command, not to mention impressive navigational features. As you move towards the rear, the pampering does not stop. Full-leather seating, reclining capability for all passengers, and the ability to convert bench seating into a three section sofa put the idea of combining versatility with luxury over the top.
Keeping anyone entertained while on the road was a concern to GMC in addition to those of drivers. A 26-inch flat screen television and DVD player leave the options wide open for entertainment while in transit. The front-seat passengers can also maintain their focus on the road thanks to the inclusion of the wireless headphones for all passengers. USB inputs, built-in CD player, and the option for fully digital surround sound make the technology enthusiasts inside of everyone get extremely excited.

"Traveling in style" is a saying which implies many different things. ![ce3e9d060a0a00650134d246e9527edc.jpg]()
On the surface, it means going from one destination to another in a vehicle that just plain looks good. It must feature an attractive design, utility that is not overbearing, and features that set it apart from all others on the road. This saying also implies that you are in a vehicle that is comfortable, suited for its needs, and luxurious. When you put all these things together and into the body of a van, you can easily come up with the 2013 Southern Comfort Conversion Van. This GMC conversion raises the bar in when it comes to exactly what a conversion van should feature in order to make it a top-of-the-line model.
GMC starts off strong by giving this van careful consideration when it comes to the equipment under the hood. It is equipped with a 4-speed automatic that works in conjunction with the 5.3-Liter, V-8 cycle engine. There is plenty of power to speak of, but drivers do not suffer excessively when they pull up to the gas pump. This 4-door high-top packs the amenities into an economically designed space that feels like anything other than a vehicle that thinks hard about economy. There is ample room for every row of seating, and all passengers along for the ride can feel as if they are in the captain's chair.
Once you move out from beneath the hood, the good things keep on coming. The exterior comes in a two-toned metallic finish that lures the eye with a smooth transition from top to bottom. A chrome grill, dual exhaust, and wrap-around ground effects make this van one that is anything but dull or conventional. On the interior, passengers are welcomed by premium, leather seating that pampers. The rear makes uses of power-sliding seating that will quickly convert into a sofa/bed. In all, seven can comfortably come along for the ride without hampering cargo storage in anyway whatsoever.
After the trip is underway, passengers will find no trouble in entertaining themselves while on the road. USB inputs, CD and DVD units, a BlueRay player, premium subwoofer and surround-sound speakers all make the journey a pleasure. The media comes your way on a 31-inch HDTV as well. There is a rear sunroof, and drivers have the benefit of technology on their side also. Among the extensive safety features to guide the trip are rear backing cameras and stabilization systems that ensure safe travel.
Drivers can feel at home in knowing what they have behind the wheel in addition to the kind of driving experience that they will have. The 2013 Southern Comfort Conversion Van comes equipped with the Class III Receiver Towing Package. The front seats make use of Captain's Chairs that are designed with power lumbar support, heating, and power recline. The entire package sits on top of 20-inch premium, alloy wheels, a feature that certainly contributes to the idea of "traveling in style."

These days, many people have taken to mobile living, and at the same time making a living doing so. With that said, employment is still usually necessary for income.
The best part is even if you own a conversion van, it's not difficult to create your own workstation away from home. With a little ingenuity and creativity, turning part of your conversion van into an office area is a real possibility.
Electricity
Many office devices need electricity to operate, and there are many ways to get power. Using the vehicle's engine battery is possible, but not the best option for several reasons including lower output and heavy draining. Getting a separate battery is the most common way to get electricity. A typical wet cell battery is inexpensive but not very efficient and needs routine maintenance. Gel batteries or Absorbent Glass Mat batteries have higher power output and can be charged and discharged many times without trouble. It is advisable to have a small generator for extra power or charging a drained battery.
Furniture
Most conversion vans already have a table built into them, which can very easily serve as an office desk. If the table is not near a seat, a small office chair may be added. Filing cabinets and shelving units come in compact sizes and would be great to have in a mobile office for organization and storage. While not an essential item, boards can serve as places to put quick notes for easy viewing. Combination white boards and cork boards are the best option, or purchase individual smaller ones and put them side by side.
Equipment
The most common office gadget is a computer. Depending on business needs a small printer would be essential, and all-in-one scanner with copier is more versatile. Telephones are typically mobile these days, and include features such as conference calling to two or more numbers. The Internet can be accessed through a computer with a Wi-Fi signal from a stationary location or independently accessed with a broadband dongle. Many cell phones also have internet capabilities and can be connected to a computer to share the signal. It is also possible to get internet through a satellite, but this requires an outdoor receiver and a clear signal to the sky without interference from clouds, trees, buildings or other such blocks.
Safety
Be sure that everything is secured to a stable surface, whether it be the floor, a wall or even the ceiling. Don't overlook little things like the garbage bin which could spill trash all over while driving. Things like pencil holders, letter boxes, device power chargers and other small items should be tucked away into locked drawers or boxes when the vehicle is in motion. Not only does this help with safety, but reduces clutter and keeps things organized, which can reduce stress when in a hurry to get something accomplished.

Nowadays, when people are looking into a spacious vehicle to purchase for their families, they'll often look at a sports utility vehicle first.
And while there are definitely some great some great SUVs out there, it may be a good idea to also look at some other options.
One of those options is the conversion van. So why should once consider purchasing a conversion van over an SUV you ask?
Here are a few great reasons why it's a better idea to purchase a conversion van instead of an SUV.
Better Gas Mileage
Let's face it. Sports utility vehicles are known for being gas hogs. Even though some models have improved as far as gas mileage goes in recent years, they usually can't beat conversion vans when it comes to fuel economy. In fact, conversion vans offer surprisingly good gas mileage despite their size.
Completely Versatile
Although sports utility vehicles can be appropriate for taking the family across town, they aren't always comfortable enough for the entire family if you're planning on making an extended haul. Conversion vans, however, are great for taking the family out and about around town or heading on a long road trip. All in all, conversion vans are incredibly versatile vehicles which are ideal for a variety of purposes.
More Interior Space
Even the largest of sports utility vehicles can't provide nearly as much space as your average conversion van does. These vehicles are great for those who have large families or who spend a lot of time in the car because they offer tons of space, which equals comfort when it comes to riding in the car.
More Comfortable to Get in and Out Of
Although some sports utility vehicles do have third row seating, it is usually pretty tricky to get in and out of these rows, especially for those who are taller than average or for small children. Conversion vans, however, have sliding doors that open up easily and make it a breeze for everyone to get in and out. They are also a lot easier to use if you need to load things into them.
Great Features
Many conversion vans have great features, such as built-in navigation systems, electrical outlets, climate control that works much better than the climate control in most vehicles, televisions and so much more. With all of these features, conversion vans really are designed to provide the entire family with plenty of comfort.
These are just a few reasons why conversion vans are a great option to consider if you are trying to decide between purchasing a van or a sports utility vehicle.
↧
When it comes to hunting and fishing, conversion vans offer one of the best ways to really enjoy hunting and fishing as a family.
Basically, conversion vans offer the ultimate in travel comfort. They provide a way to keep the whole family entertained as well as of wide range of options being the perfect base camp. It turns outdoor time into family time.
With plenty of room for the family and gear, you can ride in comfort. The van behaves like a car so you can make good time on the highway, but the heavy duty chassis will help you explore off the beaten path. A bonus is that while the gas mileage is less than a car, it is much better than other types of RVs like motor homes.
One of the nice things about hitting the great outdoors in a van conversion is that you don't have to leave the entertainment at home. You can outfit your van with the latest home entertainment system so that when the kids are done fishing, they can stay entertained before the lights go out at night. It's also good for relieving boredom during those times when everyone needs to be inside.
A conversion van is an outdoorsman's perfect base camp. With many different conversion options, a hunter and fisherman can choose the option they want based on how they will use the van while camping. They can run the gamut from something as simple as a bed or two or it can be a full Class B motorhome with beds, cooking facilities, refrigerator and even a bathroom.
With these range of options, it's easy to see how a van conversion can be an awesome base camp. You can take the entire family out and the kids can sleep in the tent and you and the wife can stay inside the van for the night. You can pull up the van in a campsite and you can cook around the campfire while the wife is cooking the other dishes inside. Best of all, after a long day of hunting or fishing, there is nothing like being able to come back inside and warm up and enjoy a nice evening with the family' where everyone is happy and comfortable.
Van conversions offer a great experience for outdoorsmen and their families. Great comfort, easy travel, good entertainment and a range of options all conspire to make a great recreational vehicle for hunting and fishing families.

Looking for a luxury van which won't test your driving or parking skills? That's a tall order. ![2013Pursuit.jpg]()
Some of the more luxurious Class B motorhomes out there are as intimidating to drive and park as a school bus loaded with students.
But a relatively new entry from Pleasure-Way, the 2014 Pursuit, is a big Class B motorhome wrapped in a slightly smaller but still-luxurious package. From the maple interior woodwork to the ceramic toilet bowl in the private bath, the Pursuit offers plenty of the finer things in life - or at least the finer things in the RV world.
Some of the "finer things" include a one-piece solid molded fiberglass roof, which eliminates many screws -- and their potential for causing squeaks and leaks. Looking for great entertainment? There's the 32" LCD/LED TV that makes it possible to watch streaming video on your TV monitor, not to mention the BlueRay player with built-in WiFi. The list goes on.
Pleasure-Way, a manufacturer of Class B motorhomes for more than a quarter-century, introduced the Pursuit in 2013 to satisfy the needs of the RV buyers who don't want or need a huge Class A motorhome. Class As offer lengths of 24 feet and up, but they come with the driving, turning and parking challenges that are inherent in that much weight and length.
To examine what makes the Pleasure-Way Pursuit the perfect size for many RVers, start at the chassis level. Compared to driving a large Class A RV, driving the Pursuit is more like driving a large pick-up truck, because essentially, that's exactly what's under the fiberglass. The Pursuit's total length is 22 feet - just a few inches longer than a Ford F350 long-wheelbase Crew Cab.
The small difference in length and weight compared to large Class A RVs makes a significant difference in the Pursuit's handling capability. That's by design, because the Pursuit starts life as an F350 dual rear wheel cutaway chassis. Powering the finished product is Ford's V10 Triton engine, coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission.
The Pursuit continues Pleasure-Way's legacy of offering a long list of standard features complemented by some unique options, and all with a focus on quality. The company believes that it maintains such a high level of quality because all the construction is done in-house.
While Pleasure-Way's standard features are well-known among RVers, this year, company executives are trumpeting a new option offered in the Pursuit - the Tri-Fold Electric Sofa. Just push a button, and the sofa converts into a 60-inch by 80-inch queen-sized bed, with no need for tabletops or extra supports.

The conversion van, it's more than what you think.
As conversion vans continue to grow in popularity, there are still those who have some pretty stereotypical misconceptions regarding them.
Let's face it, when most people hear the word van one of the first things they think of is them being designed solely for families with a slew of children they need to haul around.
The times have changed however. These days, conversion vans are not only being crafted with even more innovative and top-of-the-line features, but also are beginning to break such stereotypes.
Here are 4 common misconceptions about conversion vans you probably didn't realize.
Sure, they come with TVs but they aren't very big - FALSE.
The times are a changing folks. Sure, while most of us are fully aware a conversion is capable of housing a TV, many aren't of aware of just how much the TVs which come in them have changed throughout the years. For example. the all new Southern Comfort conversion vans are capable of housing up to a 31" LED TV in them now. Talk about luxury. Now, when you're out on the road you can watch your favorite sporting event or movie in high definition. Not to mention, combined with a great stereo system in your van, you can now enjoy such programming with full surround sound. Southern Comfort isn't the only brand to offer such a larger TV in their vans either, now other companies like Explorer are also upping their TV sizes as well.
SUVs get better gas mileage - FALSE.
Not true! These days your average conversion van actually gets much better gas mileage than most Sports Utility Vehicles. Despite their size, conversion vans offer surprisingly good gas mileage believe it or not.
Sure, they come with great packages but customization options are limited. - FALSE.
Sure, most conversion vans arrive to dealers with a preset package but it doesn't mean you can't customize them. Basically, the sky is the limit when it comes to the options you would like to add to your conversion van. If you can dream it, the odds are it can be done. We've seen conversions set up with everything from tailgating features to limousine features to golf outing features. Ultimately, what you want (and what you can get) in your van rest solely on imagination.
Only Soccer Moms and Senior Citizens drive conversion vans - FALSE.
This is perhaps by far the worse misconception out there regarding conversion vans. Throughout the past few years, we've seen a growing demographic from all generations purchasing conversion vans. From newly weds to single individuals and more, the opportunity to fully customize a conversion van has become an attractive feature for a variety of vehicle owners and the trend doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
