Santa is a kindly, thoughtful, generous gent; he'd want storage bins in the side panels filled with reindeer chow for his four-hooved buddies. They could have a quick midnight nosh while Santa is pulling chimney duty. The customized reindeer bluetooth would alert them as soon as he lay his finger aside his nose to rise up the chimney as he goes.

The heating system would be lunar and reindeer generated so he wouldn't have to use fuel or electricity to keep the inside heated on those cold winter travel nights. With the extra accessories and features, Mrs. Claus would more than likely accompany Santa on Christmas Eve. She needs to get out of the house more often anyway. With all the room that a conversion van has, he might even invite his head elf, S. Presley, to join him for in-flight strategizing. Farther to the rear is the galley. On the driver's side, you will find the microwave and the refrigerator. The refrigerator includes a removable freezer compartment. There is a wardrobe space to the right of the refrigerator and a smaller storage area to the right of the microwave. On the passenger side, you will find the laminate countertop, stainless steel sink and a two-burner range top with glass cover.

The rear is occupied by the spacious 46 x 77 inch bed and the bath area. Above the bed area, you will find ample storage cabinetry complete with pushbutton locks. Forward of the bed area, you will find a set of three large drawers that move on smooth ball bearing glides. The bath area includes dry storage, a stainless steel sink and an integrated chrome soap dispenser.

The Travato has a 16,000 BTU furnace and a 13,500 BTU roof air conditioner. The electrical system boasts a 2,800 watt Cummins Onan gas generator, group 31 deep-cycle battery, 30 A power cord and exterior AC/DC receptacles. The plumbing features an LPG accessory connection in the patio area, a four gallon 110 V water heater and an on-demand water pump.

For safety, the Travato includes a smoke detector, a carbon monoxide detector, a fire extinguisher and a ground fault interrupter. The Travato also includes a 12 month or 15,000 mile basic warranty.

Winter is probably the harshest time of the year. Protecting your conversion van form ice and snow can be a very difficult task. Cars do not take to snow very well. There are many vehicle problems that occue as the snow begins to fall. Those issues include foggy windshields, frozen pipes, a malfunctioning heater, or a cranky engine. Vehicle owners are sometimes at a loss on how to protect their van against snow damage. One of the best things you can do for this situation is to detail your van and then put it in storage. This is the only way that you can keep it out of the snow to keep all these damaging things from happening to your van.

If you still want to be able to utilize your van during the wintertime, you will need to prep it properly. This depends on your location as well. Here are a few things that you can try:

* Use snow tires - Sometimes your car can still fishtail on slick roads even if you have brand new tires. This is because the tire treads cannot handle the melted snow, road dirt, or road salt. The white blanket of snow covering the blacktop is not as clean as people think it is. Snow tires can provide you with that much needed traction. It can help your van stay on the road as well as in the correct lane. This will also help lower your chances of getting into an accident during the winter. These tires can protect your van from potential damage.

* Avoid using a metal or plastic shovel for digging out your vehicle - Sharp metal or plastic objects are the worst things that can be put next to a vehicle when you are trying to unbury it from the snow. If you want to get the worst part of the snow out of the way, it is best to use your hands and feet. You can end up gouging your vehicle with a metal or plastic shovel. You do not want to speed up the oxidation surface. Try to lift the ice up with your hands rather than pushing the ice off if the vehicle is iced over in some places. The bottom of the ice sheet may leave little scratches on your van if you push the ice off.

* Avoid parking your vehicle out in the open - Do not park your vehicle near or underneath a tree. There is a possibility that the snow can break a bough causing it to land right on your vehicle. You should leave your van in the garage overnight. This will keep it from freezing out in your driveway or parking space the next morning in case you need to use it.

We're all out of gas!

Now, it is not hard to run out of gas. Often, while in the middle of nowhere, a driver will realize that he or she does not have enough gas. When faced with this prospect, one should drive in the right lane as this will allow him or her to pull over quickly. Then, a prepared person should simply use some spare gas they have in the car. If this is not the case, a driver should opt to hitchhike and try to get to a gas station to pick up some gas and a canister.

Just your typical break down...

When breaking down in the middle of nowhere, one will have to deal with multiple problems. For starters, when on the side of road, a driver must make sure to pull over as far as possible. Next, one should try to find the issue and call a tow truck driver or mechanic. Of course, when in the middle of nowhere, a vehicle owner should be ready with food, water and blankets. Remember, not all the world has services nearby and it is wise for a van owner to carry an emergency first aid kit and enough water and food to last a day or two.

A conversion van is a great investment. While this is a fun toy to have, it is wise to be prepared and understand what can happen. When realizing and understanding this to the fullest, a driver will have an easier time when faced with potentially dangerous problems.

As with any vehicle, starting your first year of ownership off right, with appropriate maintenance provisions, is key to the longevity of the conversion van. In the long run, good maintenance pays dividends - owners will have fewer serious issues and the van will continue running long after less cared for vehicles have failed. To begin your first year off right, follow this guide to conversion van maintenance:

Regular Oil Changes

Whether you opt to do it yourself or take it to a shop, changing the oil is an important part of maintaining your van's engine. For best results, always use the type of oil that the vehicle manufacturer specifies in your owner's manual. In most cases, this will be a high-quality synthetic oil. You may not need to purchase the most expensive oil, but this is an area where you shouldn't buy the bargain basement variety either.

How often you change the oil is a function of how far you drive and the type of driving, but in general, changing the oil every 3,000 is not necessary, except in severe conditions. Every 5,000 miles will typically keep your van in shape, but it depends on how it is driven.

Other Fluids

You may not need much in the way of other fluids during your first year, unless you are driving in severe conditions; however, consider getting a transmission flush after 35,000 miles and adding windshield wiper fluid as necessary. Next year, replace your engine coolant, or after 24,000 miles. Your brake and power-steering fluids should be checked at every scheduled oil change.

Tires and Alignment

For tire rotation, you should follow the recommendations in your manual, which should be along the lines of at least once per year, ideally twice, or every 10,000 miles, which ever comes first. You should regularly check your tires' treads for signs of wear. You should replace your tires before they go bald to avoid potential accidents from flat tires or blow-outs.

Tires are also one way of knowing if the van needs realignment. They will show uneven wear. You will also know if the vehicle pulls more than slightly to the left or right. Realignment should be done when you replace your tires, but in many cases, it's worth doing every 50,000 miles regardless, for better handling and gas mileage.

Severe vs Normal Duty

If you drive your van in severe conditions, including extreme cold, frequent short trips (city driving), while hauling heavy loads, or on unpaved surfaces, you may wish to consider getting comprehensive maintenance services more often.

Warranty

If your conversion van has a warranty, you may need to conduct maintenance according to a certain schedule from the manufacturer to avoid voiding the warranty. Be sure to read any fine print on this matter and keep good records of maintenance performed on the van.

When owning a conversion van, many love to get out into the world and have a lot of fun. While this is a great vehicle to own, it does have a major downside. Maintenance: When well-maintained, a conversion van will run better and, at the same time, use less fuel. To maintain the van, one should make sure to change the oil often and change the spark plugs or air filter as needed.

Tires: One quick and painless way to improve the gas mileage is to check out the tires. Most of the time, a driver will not have enough air in his or her tires. When this happens, the motorist will waste fuel. Not only that, it is unsafe to drive with a low PSI. If a car owner has a hard time checking or adding air, he or she should take it to a professional who will, likely, do the job for free.

Avoid short trips: Ideally, a conversion van owner should avoid driving town and running errands. Instead, a motorist should only use his or her conversion van for long road trips. This will help the owner keep his or her van longer. At the same time, the driver will enjoy better fuel economy as short trips and city driving are not good for the fuel economy of the van.
