Powerful

The Travato is built on an excellent RAM ProMaster chassis. The V6 engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 4-wheel ABS brakes help you maintain traction. Most people have their needs covered by the standard automobile models on the market. Cars, hatchbacks, pickups and even SUVs can handle most transportation issues.

But what if you need to sit nine people comfortably and entertain them at the same time? The answer is customized transport—and this 2014 GMC Southern Comfort 9 Passenger Diesel Van fits the bill nicely.

The Interior: Stylish Comfort with Technology

The three-door, nine-passenger vehicle has an interior of cream and brown and a pair of Elite leather-clad power captain's chairs for the front seats. The original black plastic has been replaced by a woodgrain finish and the gauges monitor trip information, oil life and engine hours in addition to the standard speedometer.

Dashboard and control panels are simple yet effective with dials and buttons for the controls. Everyone from an 18-year-old to a great-grandfather can operate the van's systems. More tech-savvy drivers haven't been ignored though; the center console has a USB port for charging one's smartphone on the go, and there are iPod charging and docking stations.

Recessed lighting in the roof provides illumination at night, and the lighting color can be changed by remote control. The standard CD/Vizio Blu-ray system with 32-inch Vizio television mounted above the front seats keeps riders happy during long trips and there are even lighted cup holders in the side doors. A custom wood floor console holds the system and has Game Pro and HDMI ports as well as an 110V outlet. Headroom isn't a problem either; the designers have thoughtfully added extra space by adding to the existing roof.

The Exterior: Power, Beauty and Safety

The outside amenities are just as nice; the van comes standard with a GMC Duramax 6.6 liter diesel V8 and a six-speed automatic transmission. Finished in a custom fade bronze metallic color, the vehicle comes with aluminum step plates with LED lighting, a fold-down front bumper step, 20-inch chrome wheels and tires, and a ground effects kit. Novice drivers will feel safer knowing that there is a backup camera in the rear-view mirror as well, along with a fire extinguisher under the sofa in case of emergencies.

If you're a parent who needs a midsize truck for work or play, you'll be excited to learn that with thenew 2015 GMC Canyon, the manufacturer will debut brand-new safety features that  have never before been utilized in trucks in this class--including a patent pending feature to keep children in car seats safer in the event of a collision.

In most extended cab trucks, it's nearly impossible to put a child safety seat in a second row seat safely, since there is not room for the manufacturer-recommended 80 percent of the seat base to be on the seat. The new Canyon solves this problem with a revolutionary detachable back-seat headrest, which securely attaches to the seat itself, providing the surface area for the child seat to be safely and effectively secured.

But that's not the only unique-in-its-class safety feature the 2015 Canyon will offer. It's also the first mid-size truck to incorporate automatic warnings for lane departure and forward collision. These features, available as part of an optional Driver Alert package, sound warnings when the driver is too close to a car ahead of it or in the next lane. A rear vision camera, which is more effective than rearview mirrors for maximum driver visibility, is also standard.

In addition to these brand-new features, the Canyon's frame is made from more than 70 percent high-strength steel, making it more safe in the event of a crash than cars with bodies with a lower steel percentage. Six airbags, including head curtain side airbags that prevent driver and passenger ejection in the event of a crash, are also standard in the truck.

Infotainment is also provided safely in the 2015 Canyon. The available IntelliLink system incorporates a touchscreen with smartphone capabilities into the dash, seamlessly syncing navigation, music, voice commands, and more without requiring the driver to take his or her attention from the road. Drivers who use the iPhone platform can also integrate their phone with the Siri assistant, allowing them to hear and respond to text messages and use other voice commands while on the road.

While mid-sized trucks aren't typically considered ideal family vehicles, the all-new 2015 GMC Canyon turns the tables with a variety of truly innovative safety features that make it the smart choice for parents who need the hauling power and size of a pickup with a vehicle that will give them peace of mind while toting their most precious cargo. The truck, which has no firm release date, will go into production in fall 2014.

I'm not afraid to admit it: I'm a thirty-one year old man, without children and I love vans.

I'm not sure why, but I've always enjoyed driving vans...even as a teenager. Needless to say, I was blown away when I recently saw a 2014 GMC Southern Comfort Duramax arrive to the dealership. It affords one the luxuries of a GMC, while providing the capacity to carry a family of nine.

While it was the exterior that originally caught my eye, it's the interior that really blew me away. But you don't have to take my word for it; the world elite is literally embroidered into the headrest of each seat.

Possibly the biggest wow factor is all the technological features that come standard in this luxury van. You might want to travel to races, but  you do not have the money to purchase a massive RV to travel in. You should consider what you can do with a conversion van if you are traveling to races.

Conversion Vans Are Fairly Large

An RV is much larger than a conversion van, but a conversion van is not small by any means. You can easily sleep two to three people in a conversion van. Also, a conversion van has space for entertainment such as a TV, DVD player, game system. Plus, the van already has a built-in radio. You can add your own CB radio to the van without taking up any sleeping space, and you can close up the van to sleep at night.

Conversion Vans Are Spacious During The Day

When you open the van during the day, you have much more space than you would in a car. You can sit on the back of the van while you are tailgating, or you can unload your grill and cooler from the top of the van. The interior of the van is meant for sleeping, but you can load your extra gear on top of the van. You are carrying all the same things an RV owner would carry, and you are not giving up sleeping space.

Conversion Vans Are Easy On Gas

RVs are notoriously hard on gas mileage. You could spend several hundred more dollars on a trip just in gas if you drive an RV. A conversion van does not have the greatest gas mileage, but the mileage is still better than an RV. Ultramarathon Bicycle Race Teams and Conversion Vans: Combining a Garage and Hotel Room on the Road

The racing of bicycles has evolved over the last century into an international sport.

It used to be that short circuit bicycle races, or “Criteriums,” were the most popular form of road racing in North America. Now famous road faces like the Tour de France have begun to change the focus from speed to distance and duration. As a result, road races today are growing in length as the athletes endurance abilities increase.

The challenges this presents to race organizers and race teams are numerous. For example, the LoToJa Bicycle Classic (the longest one-day cycling road race in the United States) covers 206 miles from Logan, Utah to Jackson, Wyoming.

Ultramarathon races have also increased in popularity. These are long single stage race events where the race clock runs from start to finish. The race can last for days with riders taking breaks on their own schedules, and the first cyclist to cross the finish line becomes the winner.

The Race Across America, also once known as the Great American Bike Race, is one such popular ultramarathon. The Race goes non-stop from coast-to-coast with cyclists racing somewhere around 3,000 miles in about 7 days.

These long distance races utilize “Support and Gear” vehicles. These ‘caravan’ cars, or “follow behind” vehicles, trail the pack in support of their racers.

Today race teams are utilizing conversion vans as sort of a combined garage and hotel room on wheels.

Long distance bike race caravan’s usually consist of a police escort, a press car, race officials, and neutral support vehicles all ahead of the racers.

Following at a safe distance behind are the medical vehicles, the team vehicles, and finally the “Broom wagon.”

Many of the “Support and Gear” vehicles (or “Support and Grub” as some call them) require customization to fulfill the individual needs of the race team. This is where conversion van comes in handy.

These custom vans must transport bicycles with a bike rack on top, store spare parts, tires, inflater pumps, etc. They need to be furnished with a 12 volt fridge and stove for food preparation, and include some sort of porta potti on board.

These follow behind vehicles must be dependable enough to travel various terrains with ever changing weather conditions and provide bunks for naps or sleeping accommodations for when the team travels between races.

Customization of these vans must also include flashing warning lights, two way race radio equipment, GPS tracking systems, and in some cases a generator.

The number of actual racers on a team may vary, but the mechanic, support staff, team manager, and riding crew all must live and travel together in their customized conversion team vans.
